The Northern Marianas Sports Association has set a May 1 deadline for submission of documents of athletes, coaches, and officials participating in the 2018 Micronesian Games in Yap.<\/p>\n
NMSA president Michael White, in last week\u2019s monthly meeting, said local sports federations must submit the names and the business page of passports of their delegates.<\/p>\n
\u201cI would also be needing separate copies of passport size photos. It will be easier to register this time since the organizers will use the sporting pulse system for its registration,\u201d White said. \u201cThose who competed in previous Games and were previously accredited are no longer required to submit photos and copies of their passports,\u201d added White, who will be leaving for Yap on May 4 to attend a meeting for the Micronesian Games.<\/p>\n
The CNMI is expected to send an over 130-strong delegation to the Micronesian Games that will run from July 15 to 27. The Commonwealth will be competing in basketball (men\u2019s and women\u2019s), beach and indoor volleyball (men\u2019s and women\u2019s), canoe (men\u2019s and women\u2019s), baseball, athletics, spearfishing, and weightlifting (men\u2019s and women\u2019s).<\/p>\n
White is also reminding sports federations to submit their monthly reports to track the progress of their training before the quadrennial sporting event.<\/p>\n
\u201cSo far, basketball has been consistent with its monthly report. We want to send athletes who are competitive and not tourists. We want to see if they are practicing and training for the Games,\u201d said White. \u201cAs much as possible, we want to have the best athletes that would best represent and are ready to compete for the CNMI.\u201d<\/p>\n
Weightlifting was the first to name its athletes to the Micro Games with 2017 Pacific Mini Games bronze medalist Angel San Nicolas leading the squad. Also on the team are Joey Tudela and newcomer Rodrigo Ada for the men\u2019s division and Bonny Cruz and Antonette Labausa in the women\u2019s side.<\/p>\n
Mariana Islands Basketball Federation official Elias Rangamar, who will be coaching the men\u2019s and women\u2019s teams, is also set to name his final roster sometime next week.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
