{"id":27386,"date":"2014-02-12T16:19:28","date_gmt":"2014-02-12T08:19:28","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/newspaper2.ctsi-logistics.com\/?p=27386"},"modified":"2014-02-12T16:19:28","modified_gmt":"2014-02-12T08:19:28","slug":"house-panel-backs-higher-penalties-pedophiles","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.saipantribune.com\/index.php\/house-panel-backs-higher-penalties-pedophiles\/","title":{"rendered":"House panel backs higher penalties for pedophiles"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The House Committee on Judiciary and Governmental Operations has recommended the passage of a bill that would increase the penalties for sexual abuse of a minor in the first degree.<\/p>\n<p>According to the findings of the JGO committee, \u201cIt is appropriate to increase the penalties so that it will send a strong message that we will not tolerate heinous crimes perpetrated against our children.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>A mandatory sentence is the \u201conly way\u201d to ensure sex offenders serve time in jail to keep them off the streets, the report added.<\/p>\n<p>House Bill 18-113 is authored by Rep. Trenton B.
