{"id":274253,"date":"2018-04-18T06:05:14","date_gmt":"2018-04-17T20:05:14","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.saipantribune.com\/?p=274253"},"modified":"2018-04-18T06:05:14","modified_gmt":"2018-04-17T20:05:14","slug":"another-drowning-at-lau-lau-bay","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.saipantribune.com\/index.php\/another-drowning-at-lau-lau-bay\/","title":{"rendered":"Another drowning at Lau Lau Bay"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>A 53-year-old Japanese male reportedly drowned while diving yesterday morning at Lau Lau Bay, where a tourist also drowned last month. <\/p>\n<p>The victim, identified by the Department of Fire and Emergency Medical Services as Hirofumi Suzuki, was brought to the Commonwealth Health Center, where a physician pronounced him dead at 11:03am, according to Department of Public Safety spokesman Jacqueline Rae Shepard.<\/p>\n<p>It was a G4S security guard who called DPS dispatch at 10:24am about a possible drowning incident at a Lau Lau Bay dive spot.<\/p>\n<p>Shepard said that when DPS Boating Safety police officers arrived at the beach at 10:31am they came upon two people trying to revive the unconscious victim, who was lying on the sand.<\/p>\n<p>Department of Fire and Emergency Medical Services rescue units arrived shortly after and continued administering cardiopulmonary resuscitation on the victim until an ambulance came at 10:41am.<\/p>\n<p>Shepard said witnesses at the scene told police that the victim had entered the waters on a scheduled dive. While descending, the victim panicked and removed his breathing regulator, causing him to breath in water.<\/p>\n<p>The diving instructor immediately pulled the victim from the water. With the assistance of another diving instructor, the first instructor began applying CPR.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cTheir attempts to revive the victim were unsuccessful,\u201d Shepard said.<\/p>\n<p>Last March 9, Tian Tao, a 32-year-old Chinese male tourist, drowned while swimming at Lau Lau Bay.<\/p>\n<p>Last Feb. 23, a 25-year-old Korean male tourist who was swimming with three companions was swept away by a wave at Forbidden Island in Kagman.
