{"id":274391,"date":"2018-04-20T06:00:49","date_gmt":"2018-04-19T20:00:49","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.saipantribune.com\/?p=274391"},"modified":"2018-04-20T06:00:49","modified_gmt":"2018-04-19T20:00:49","slug":"let-us-not-penalize-kchc","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.saipantribune.com\/index.php\/let-us-not-penalize-kchc\/","title":{"rendered":"\u2018Let us not penalize KCHC\u2019"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Breaking off from the Commonwealth Healthcare Corp. last week to chart an independent course, the Kagman Community Health Center now heads into the future as a non-profit entity.<\/p>\n<p>With almost 5,000 patients from all over Saipan, KCHC aims to provide services to include family care, women\u2019s and children\u2019s care, veteran\u2019s care, and care for the chronically ill and elderly.<\/p>\n<p>Gov. Ralph DLG Torres congratulates KCHC for being awarded a $3-million grant from the Health Resources and Services Administration that will be spread out in the next three years.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe should be giving them kudos and congratulate them for\u2026taking the initiative and being competitive to apply for a million-dollar grant. If KCHC did not apply, the grant would have gone to someone else, so let\u2019s not penalize them for doing what I believe is good for the community,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe must remember that this is a grant that they applied for and they are the only entity that applied and because of that, I think we should endorse that,\u201d he added.<\/p>\n<p>The new grant awarded to KCHC left out co-applicant CHCC.<\/p>\n<p>The old HRSA grant is expiring on April 30, 2018.<\/p>\n<p> \u201cI believe that KCHC will bring benefit to the community\u2026 We asked the community in Kagman and everyone would like to avail of their health services,\u201d Torres said.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe question that we should be asking ourselves is, will KCHC provide quality healthcare for our community? If the answer is yes, then we should support it and if not, then we should re-evaluate.
