(MVA)

One of Rota’s most popular visitor sites is getting a facelift under the Marianas Visitors Authority’s destination enhancement program.

The MVA is on track to complete a project this month to addressed safety concerns and make repairs and improvements to iconic Rota Swimming Hole.

Since January 2018, major overhauls have been made to the restroom, including the replacement of stained and damaged toilet bowls and lavatory faucets, repairs to the shower stall, and the installation of ADA-compliant handrails. A structurally unsound barbecue house and stand were demolished, and a new stand was built for picnickers. The tin roof of the wooden pavilion at the site was refurbished with new rafters, a new plywood ceiling, and a new tin roof. The restrooms and concrete pavilion were completely water blasted and repainted, giving the facilities a new shine.

“Rota Swimming Hole is one of the most popular sites on Rota for local and visitors, alike,” said product development manager Tatiana Babauta. “Almost all of our media and travel agent [familiarization] tours to Rota also visit the site, so this upgrade presents a very clean and attractive image for visitors and also make the site more clean, comfortable, and safe for residents, as well.”

Additional upgrades included the repair of a concrete sink, table, and benches at the pavilion, the demolition of unsightly concrete columns near the beach, and the construction of a three-foot wide walkway at the restrooms. Repairs to the water tank concrete pad are underway, and the Rota Mayor’s Office will replace the water tank.

As part of its ongoing destination enhancement projects on Rota, the MVA also recently completed restoration of the Aponon Japanese Memorial honoring World War II casualties on the island. The restoration included removal of mildew and repainting of both monuments. (PR)

One of Rota’s most popular visitor sites is getting a facelift under the Marianas Visitors…

[16
20913,2384,20914,3425
post-274515","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","hentry","category-biba-marianas","tag-aponon-japanese-memorial","tag-rota-mayor","tag-rota-swimming-hole","tag-tatiana-babauta
["GET
