Sablan (Ind-MP) issued the following statement yesterday to the announcement that the CNMI is raising food stamp benefits to equal or exceed\u00a0benefits\u00a0provided in Guam through SNAP, the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program:<\/p>\n<p>\u201cMaking sure the $30.5 million that I got for the Marianas in Section 4031 of the Agricultural Act of 2014 was quickly put to use feeding families has always been my goal. Seeing that money unused, when I know we have hungry children, was unacceptable to me.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI congratulate Commonwealth officials who have now made the decision to use the Agricultural Act funding much more aggressively to address the problem of hunger in our islands.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI remain in close consultation with the U.S.\u00a0Department\u00a0of Agriculture to monitor this spending.\u201d (PR)<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Delegate Gregorio Kilili C.
