Glenn Maratita (R-Rota), the House voted 18-0 to support House Bill 20-144, which renames the Rota Fire Station 8 as the Robert O. Hocog Fire Station, in honor of the former mayor\u2019s 22 years of service to Rota.<\/p>\n<p>Rota Mayor Efraim Atalig and Department of Fire and Emergency Medical Services resident deputy commissioner for Rota Dennis C. Mendiola echoed DFEMS Commissioner Clyde Norita in supporting the name change.<\/p>\n<p>According to Mendiola, Hocog\u2019s expansive list of accomplishments include the growth of the department from four to 14 firefighters; his leadership role in procuring a fire truck; his selection as the CNMI\u2019s first assistant fire chief; and his leadership role in the construction of Fire Station 8 on Rota in the 1990s. <\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt shall be most fitting to have Station 8 be named after a fire chief whose dedication and commitment can inspire the next generation of firefighters,\u201d said Mendiola.<\/p>\n<p>H.B. 20-144 not only renames Fire Station 8 but also affixes the name \u201cRobert O.
