A flood of memories overcame me as I sat watching young people finishing a big step in their lives. As I watched these new graduates smile confidently about their various futures, I fondly remembered my kindly boss who supported education with a quiet but fervent passion. Even with his busy schedule so many years ago, we always attended school events.

One time at Hopwood we were at a school science fair when a student placed her scary-looking exhibit on my arm. She said don’t worry, it was a “friendly” tarantula spider. I nervously smiled and saw my boss chuckle at my reaction. I quickly transferred the large hairy monster to the arm of my boss and waited for his reaction. He stared at me with a look that I was now unemployed, but then he smiled at the youngster and urged her to remove the spider from his arm. Then my boss graciously complimented me on my “get even” move to place the spider on his arm, but said with a friendly smile to never do that again. I could go on with many special stories about a special boss, but I’ll stop here.

It’s with a personal sadness and the peace of mind knowing that the good Lord is welcoming a great man into His arms forever, that I now lovingly say, rest in peace, governor Pedro P. Tenorio, and thanks for the many special memories and I know you’ll be watching over first lady Sophia and your family from your new heavenly home.

Dr. Jack Angello
Navy Hill, Saipan

[7
46,37,1784,67
post-276815","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","hentry","category-letters-to-the-editor","tag-ceremony","tag-education-2","tag-navy-hill","tag-people
["GET
