We must do what we can to protect them for our economy and for the future of the people of the CNMI.”

The Adopt-a-Bin program, with its recycle bins placed at 20 strategic locations around the island, is now in its eighth year, and has collected tons of recyclable items and mixed waste, keeping it off the ground and out of the lagoon.

Roberta Guerrero, executive director at MINA, stresses the effectiveness of this program, and attributes a great part of its success to partnerships with local businesses.

“It is gratifying to know that belief in this program and its effectiveness, as demonstrated by the recent signing of Pacific Islands Club as a sponsor, is what keeps us going,” she said.

Bin sponsorship, a vital component of the program, pays for the weekly collection and transfer service, as well as bi-annual cleanups by their corporate volunteers.

MINA is calling on any other interested partners to step on board and contribute to this effort of keeping our land and sea clean and litter-free.

For more information about the program and becoming a sponsor, call (670)233-7333(REEF) or email minaoutreach@gmail.com.
