{"id":277795,"date":"2018-06-08T06:03:43","date_gmt":"2018-06-07T20:03:43","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.saipantribune.com\/?p=277795"},"modified":"2018-06-08T06:03:43","modified_gmt":"2018-06-07T20:03:43","slug":"oia-opens-grant-period-for-coral-reef-initiative","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.saipantribune.com\/index.php\/oia-opens-grant-period-for-coral-reef-initiative\/","title":{"rendered":"OIA opens grant period for coral reef initiative"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>WASHINGTON, D.C.\u2014The U.S. Department of the Interior\u2019s Office of Insular Affairs will begin accepting grant applications for the Coral Reef and Natural Resources Initiative. <\/p>\n<p>The CRNR is a federal program aimed at improving\u00a0the health of coral reef ecosystems and other natural resources in the U.S. insular areas.<\/p>\n<p>OIA has indicated that it will prioritize projects in the insular areas that address threats to coral reef ecosystems, research on sea level rise impacts coral reefs, and applications to combat and eradicate invasive species.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Applications are open to\u00a0insular government entities, educational institutions, or non-profit organizations.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>The deadline for submissions through\u00a0grants.gov using CFDA# 15.875 is\u00a0July 6, 2018.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe Coral Reef and Natural Resources Initiative is an important program that will help preserve our coral reefs and combat the spread of invasive species [in] Guam and in the territories,\u201d said Delegate Madeleine Z. Bordallo (D-GU). \u201cEach year, I am proud to join my colleagues from the territories in providing congressional appropriations for OIA to support this program and other that benefit our island and the other insular areas.
