Police have identified persons of interest in the hit-and-run involving a car that mowed down a female tourist who was walking with a friend on the shoulder of Beach Road near Mascot Auto Parts in southern Garapan Friday afternoon. <\/p>\n
Department of Public Safety spokesperson Jacqueline Rae Shepard said yesterday that, after an extensive search, DPS police officers found the car\u2014a four-door turquoise Toyota Corolla\u2014and impounded it. A \u201cperson of interest\u201d is not necessarily a suspect and is usually not arrested.<\/p>\n
\u201cAn investigation is currently underway,\u201d Shepard said.<\/p>\n
Shepard earlier stated that investigators believe the incident began as a purse snatching that ended in a hit-and-run.<\/p>\n
Shepard said that DPS dispatch received a call on Friday at 1:14pm about a hit-and-run involving a pedestrian along Beach Road near Gold Beach Hotel.<\/p>\n
Police investigation showed that two Chinese female tourists were walking on the northbound shoulder of Beach Road when a car that was traveling north hit one of them near Mascot Auto Parts. The car did not stop.<\/p>\n
The 25-year-old victim was brought to the Commonwealth Health Center, where she was treated and released with minor injuries.<\/p>\n
Video of the incident taken from the surveillance camera of a nearby establishment that went viral on social media showed the tourist being sideswiped from the back by the car and falling on her back.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
