A former Tinian mayor has been sworn into the Commonwealth Casino Commission representing Tinian after their resident representative\u2019s term expired in May 2018.<\/p>\n
Former Tinian mayor Ramon M. Dela Cruz was nominated by Tinian Mayor Joey Patrick San Nicolas as the Tinian representative for the commission that regulates the gaming industry on Saipan.<\/p>\n
In a written statement from Dela Cruz, he says he was caught off guard by the nomination, but added that he would make sure to use his new position to ensure that the \u201ccasino industry is compliant with local and federal laws and at the same time ensure that the casino [industry\u2019s] sustainability [is maintained] amidst the many challenges here in our Commonwealth.\u201d<\/p>\n
\u201cI will work aggressively with the commission members, Department of Labor, Northern Marianas College, Northern Marianas Trade Institute, Work[force] Investment Agency, and others to train our manhoben in all areas of casino and hospitality industry [to] maximize job opportunities for all qualified local residents,\u201d he wrote.<\/p>\n
Sen. Jude Hofschneider (R-Tinian), who chairs the Tinian and Aguiguan Legislative Delegation, said that he, along with the other members of the delegation, trust in Dela Cruz\u2019s ability to perform in the commission.<\/p>\n
\u201cDela Cruz has a wealth of experience in serving public office in both the Tinian Mayor\u2019s Office and as a former senator,\u201d he said, adding that other commissioners representing Saipan support his nomination.<\/p>\n
Hofschneider noted that the casino commission lacked Tinian representation with the expiration of former casino commissioner Martin San Nicolas\u2019 term in May 2018.<\/p>\n
\u201cI would also like to extend my appreciation to the former member Martin San Nicolas. He served very well during his tenure and this organization is very crucial to the stability [of the CNMI],\u201d he said.<\/p>\n
