{"id":279054,"date":"2018-06-28T06:06:13","date_gmt":"2018-06-27T20:06:13","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.saipantribune.com\/?p=279054"},"modified":"2018-06-28T06:06:13","modified_gmt":"2018-06-27T20:06:13","slug":"july-proclamation-recognizes-bereaved-parents","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.saipantribune.com\/index.php\/july-proclamation-recognizes-bereaved-parents\/","title":{"rendered":"July proclamation recognizes bereaved parents"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>In a unique proclamation signing, bereaved parents gathered at the Office of the Governor\u2019s conference room on Capital Hill yesterday to recognize the grief a parent endures with the untimely passing of their children.<\/p>\n<p>Gov. Ralph DLG Torres proclaimed July as Bereaved Parents Awareness Month in the CNMI, describing the proclamation ceremony as the first of its kind. <\/p>\n<p>Having lost a sibling, Torres said he could relate to those who unfortunately outlive their own children, as he himself has seen it with his own parents when he lost a sibling.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cEach one of us has different ways of letting go and appreciating what matters\u2026 We need to stay together, most especially at the time of need,\u201d Torres said. \u201c\u2026I\u2019ve seen it too with my family. Losing someone is never easy.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The proclamation was a product of the efforts of We Remember Them CNMI, led by Tania Mendiola, Jill Derickson, and Donna Krum. <\/p>\n<p>Derickson, who has lost her husband, her father, and her sister, said the proclamation is intended for parents who have lost their child.<\/p>\n<p>\u201c\u2026It\u2019s a very unique kind of loss,\u201d said Derickson. \u201cYou don\u2019t expect your child to [pass] before you do.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The organization would be hosting a walk on July 26, called the \u201cWalk to Remember,\u201d in remembrance of children whose lives were taken too soon.
