{"id":279733,"date":"2018-07-10T06:06:41","date_gmt":"2018-07-09T20:06:41","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.saipantribune.com\/?p=279733"},"modified":"2018-07-10T06:06:41","modified_gmt":"2018-07-09T20:06:41","slug":"dpw-eyes-traffic-lights-at-quartermaster","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.saipantribune.com\/index.php\/dpw-eyes-traffic-lights-at-quartermaster\/","title":{"rendered":"DPW eyes traffic lights at Quartermaster"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The Department of Public Works is currently looking at installing new traffic signal lights at an intersection connecting Beach Road and Middle Road.<\/p>\n<p>According to a communication to the House Public Utilities and Communications Committee chair Rep. Francisco Dela Cruz (R-Saipan) and Senate Public Utilities, Transportation, and Communications Committee chair Sen. Sixto K. Igisomar (R-Saipan), DPW updated its four-year Territorial Transportation Improvement Plan, or TTIP, to include installing new traffic signal lights for the Quartermaster Intersection on Beach Road.<\/p>\n<p>Federal Highway Administration territorial representative Boday Borres amended on June 26, 2018 the TTIP during her visit to Saipan last week to reflect the installation of the traffic signal lights.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe amendment included the Beach Road\/Quartermaster Intersection and Kopa DeOro Road Route 30 Chalan Pale Arnold to install a new traffic signal system and other projects,\u201d DPW secretary James Ada told both chairs.<\/p>\n<p>Igisomar during yesterday\u2019s Senate session commented on the issue, informing his colleagues at the Senate of the amendment.<\/p>\n<p>\u201c\u2026Help support DPW to\u2026enhance the intersection at Quartermaster or Beach Road considering that we have had a lot of accidents there. We are hoping that this [streetlight] can minimize the amount of accidents there,\u201d he said. <\/p>\n<p>Igisomar noted that he has been communicating with DPW through Senate President Arnold I. Palacios (R-Saipan) and Gov.
