{"id":279747,"date":"2018-07-11T06:00:34","date_gmt":"2018-07-10T20:00:34","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.saipantribune.com\/?p=279747"},"modified":"2018-07-11T06:00:34","modified_gmt":"2018-07-10T20:00:34","slug":"who-and-what-is-worthy-of-memory","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.saipantribune.com\/index.php\/who-and-what-is-worthy-of-memory\/","title":{"rendered":"Who and what is worthy of memory?"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong>NINE DEAD WORTHIES, NOW WORTH ANY LESS?<\/strong><br \/>\nAccording to medieval legend, the Nine Worthies, or supreme<br \/>\nheroes of history included three Jews ( Joshua, David, and Judas<br \/>\nMaccabeus), three pagans (Hector, Alexander, Julius Caesar),<br \/>\nand three Christians (Arthur, Charlemagne, Godfrey of Bouillon).<\/p>\n<p>\u201cJoshua fought the battle of Jericho, Jericho, Jericho, Joshua fought<br \/>\nthe battle of Jericho and the walls came tumbling down.\u201d<br \/>\nLittle David slew Goliath , played his harp and wore a wise crown.<br \/>\nJudas Maccabee defeated the Maccabees, restored the temple for<br \/>\nJewish worship, Hannukah celebrating that is celebrated to this day.<br \/>\nHector was the chief warrior of Greek Troy, killed by Achilles,<br \/>\nas King Priam\u2019s and Queen Hecuba\u2019s son he was their pride and joy.<br \/>\nAlexander led armies and conquered the known Western world.<br \/>\nJulius Caesar formed armies with swords and shields, spears hurled.<br \/>\nKing Arthur of Camelot organized the Knights of the Round Table.<br \/>\nCharlemagne ruled France, Charles the Magnificent according to fable.<br \/>\nGodfrey of Bouillon I never heard of and didn\u2019t look him up.<br \/>\nInstead I\u2019ll have hot bouillon on a cold winter\u2019s day in a cup.<\/p>\n<p><strong>TWO MODERN WORTHIES NOW<br \/>\nWORTH LESS OR WORTHLESS<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>I have done one far braver thing<br \/>\nthan all the Nine Worthies ever tried<br \/>\nall know me as the King of Bling<br \/>\nmy base believes that I never lied<br \/>\nso now I can lie and will utter this<br \/>\nothers believe in me no more<br \/>\nnew lies to tell my goal always is<br \/>\nto lie like hell as I often did before<br \/>\nbut she whose loveliness I control<br \/>\nstumbled and now the media loathes<br \/>\nshe showed a thoughtless kind of soul<br \/>\npop philosophy drawn on her clothes<br \/>\nshe does as I say and follows as I do<br \/>\nher attire on her jacket for all to see<br \/>\nthe lying media saw and filmed it too<br \/>\nand saw the hypocrisy of her and me<br \/>\nbut I have done a far braver thing<br \/>\nthan all the Nine Worthies ever did<br \/>\neven though indicted helpers sing<br \/>\nI keep my sex secrets and taxes hid.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>NINE DEAD WORTHIES, NOW WORTH ANY LESS?
