Gov. Hocog, Rota Mayor Atalig file candidacies"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Republicans Lt. Gov. Victor Borja Hocog and Rota Mayor Efraim M. Atalig filed yesterday morning their candidacies for Senate and for mayor, respectively. <\/p>\n<p>At the same time, Rota Republicans Felix M. Santos and Glenn L. Maratita (R-Rota) filed their candidacies for Senate and House of Representatives respectively.<\/p>\n<p>Felix Santos is a former Rota Department of Public Safety resident director. House floor leader Maratita is seeking re-election. <\/p>\n<p>Rota Republican Party chair Laura I. Manglona accompanied the four candidates during the filing at the Commonwealth Election Commission at 8am.<\/p>\n<p>Rota Republican Party chair Manglona and secretary Sandra M. Masga signed the certificate of nomination for the four candidates.<\/p>\n<p>Three other independent candidates from Rota filed their candidacies last Monday, the first day of filing the nominating petitions and candidacy for the Nov. 6 general election. <\/p>\n<p>They were Sen. Teresita A. Santos (R-Rota), Sen. Steve K. Mesngon (R-Rota), and former Commonwealth Utilities Corp. board member Albert A. Taitano. <\/p>\n<p>Santos is seeking re-election, while Mesngon is running for mayor. Taitano is seeking a Senate seat.<\/p>\n<p>It\u2019s a crowded race on Rota. Seven are running for two positions at the Senate, five are battling for the mayoral seat, and three will be duking it out for a lone House post.<\/p>\n<p>Of the 15 candidates, 11 are independents and four are Republicans, Saipan Tribune learned from sources on Rota.<\/p>\n<p>Meanwhile, Glenn Hocog Manglona of the Democratic Party filed his candidacy for a House seat in precinct 1. <\/p>\n<p>Precinct 1A to C cover San Antonio, San Vicente, and Koblerville.<\/p>\n<p>Democratic Party chair Daniel O. Quitugua and secretary Jonathan P. Cabrera signed the nomination for Manglona.<\/p>\n<p>CEC acting executive director Kayla S. Igitol said yesterday that the CEC board will hold a meeting tomorrow, Friday, at their conference room at 1pm.<\/p>\n<p>Igitol said among the agenda will be the election of the board\u2019s pro temp vice chair and the review of incomplete\/problematic mail registration affidavits.<\/p>\n<p>Igitol disclosed that 14 of the registration of affidavits that they received from off-island are either incomplete or have problematic issues.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Republicans Lt.
