A total of $2,244,224 in Federal Emergency Management Agency hazard mitigation assistance has been awarded for Phase II of the Water Systems Mitigation Project in the Commonwealth.<\/p>\n
\u201cWe received the notification of funding approval for the Water System Mitigation Project for the Commonwealth Utilities Corp.,\u201d said Gov. Ralph DLG. Torres. \u201cI am very pleased that we can begin Phase I and Phase II of this project which will improve our overall water production and increase the resilience of water wells during times of disaster.\u201d<\/p>\n
According to the Virginia Villagomez, the governor\u2019s authorized representative, the money covers Phase II with a federal share of $1,353,343.<\/p>\n
\u201cThe total award for this project, including the first phase, amounts to $7,264,233. At the beginning of this project, we were awarded $5,020,009 for Phase I. We have informed CUC of the available disbursement and we look forward to completing this project and strengthening our overall infrastructure,\u201d Villagomez said.<\/p>\n
Phase I is 90 percent design inclusive of Phase II and now both phases can be solicited competitively.<\/p>\n
FEMA Region IX director of mitigation Juliette Hayes stated in her letter that the project approval was based on a favorable cost-effective analysis and the completion of the first grant period of performance.<\/p>\n
The scope of work includes: The procurement and installation of 12 pad-mounted generators strategically located to provide emergency back-up to 91 water wells; the procurement and installation of one 1000-KW containerized generator with an integral fuel storage tank; the procurement of seven new concrete structures and two hardened buildings for the housing of new generators and electrical switchgear; and the installation of hardened wind-resistant concrete poles, with new power transformers and associated attachments.<\/p>\n
