Ralph DLG Torres on Friday swore in three nominees at the governor\u2019s conference room on Capitol Hill after the Senate confirmed their appointments.<\/p>\n<p>Torres swore in Geralyn Dela Cruz, Cinta Kaipat, and Barrie Toves into the CNMI Scholarship board, the Marianas Visitors Authority board, and the Commonwealth Ports Authority board, respectively. <\/p>\n<p>Dela Cruz and Kaipat both represent Saipan on their respective boards, while Toves represents Rota. <\/p>\n<p>Dela Cruz, who is serving her second term with the Scholarship Board, highlighted the importance of the program in her brief speech after her oathtaking.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cMany of us have received assistance from the government\u2026but this program allows CNMI students to go to school, get assistance, and come back home to serve [the community],\u201d she said. \u201cIf we look at the numbers, we are progressing.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>According to Dela Cruz, \u201ca lot\u201d of students who avail of Scholarship Office services return to the CNMI with college diplomas. <\/p>\n<p>She noted that she would continue to request funding for the program, while Torres assured that his office is working on providing further funding for the office.<\/p>\n<p>Kaipat, who would be serving the MVA board for the first time, said she is grateful to both Torres and Lt. Gov. Victor B. Hocog for her appointment.<\/p>\n<p>Kaipat said she hopes to bring to the MVA board her experiences as a previous cultural dancer for tourists as well as her experience in the Legislature as a former representative.<\/p>\n<p>As a member of the House, Kaipat created the Beautify CNMI program, which is still being used to this day. <\/p>\n<p>Kaipat intends to continue prioritizing the cleanliness of the environment.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Gov.
