The CNMI\u2019s first-ever Disability Sports Festival has been reset to Aug. 10 and 11 at the Marianas High School after being postponed due to the threat of Tropical Storm Maria last month.<\/p>\n
Rotary Club of Saipan president Greg Borja invited everyone to attend the event, which starts at 9:30am and ends at 4pm on both days.<\/p>\n
The sportsfest was originally scheduled to take place last July 6 to July 7, but was postponed because of the risky weather that transpired that same week. <\/p>\n
Borja said some 70 people registered for the Disability Sports Festival\u2014nine representing Rota, nine from Tinian, and the rest residing on Saipan.<\/p>\n
Rotarians, in partnership with Northern Marianas Protection and Advocacy System, will stage one of the disability games known as Boccia. It is a precision ball sport adapted from Bocce but for people that use wheelchairs. <\/p>\n
The other three activities are sitting volleyball, outrigger, and adjustable softball. <\/p>\n
On Aug. 10, four groups will be divided to play their desired sport. After an hour and 10 minutes, each group will switch on a rotating basis to try a new sport. <\/p>\n
As for Aug. 11, Borja said it is the person\u2019s choice to play a certain sports activity. <\/p>\n
The Office of Grants Management reimbursed $70,000 to the Public School System back in April in order to promote accessible sports to students with disabilities. <\/p>\n
Borja said he plans to hold the Disability Sports Festival again in March during the annual Development Disabilities Awareness Month. <\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
