{"id":281470,"date":"2018-08-03T06:00:02","date_gmt":"2018-08-02T22:00:02","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.saipantribune.com\/?p=281470"},"modified":"2018-08-03T06:00:02","modified_gmt":"2018-08-02T22:00:02","slug":"private-school-teachers-undergo-2-day-professional-devt-training","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.saipantribune.com\/index.php\/private-school-teachers-undergo-2-day-professional-devt-training\/","title":{"rendered":"Private school teachers undergo 2-day professional dev\u2019t training"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>A total of 110 teachers from private schools in the CNMI attended the first day of the Commonwealth Coalition of Private Schools\u2019 two-day professional development program yesterday at the Pacific Islands Club Saipan.<\/p>\n<p>Saipan International School headmaster Ron Snyder, who gave a one-hour slide show, \u201cIntroduction to Curriculum Unit Design,\u201d said it is important to put the overall learning goals first before identifying how outcomes are reached <\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe learning plan comes afterwards,\u201d said Snyder, adding that the method deepens broader understanding and \u201cbig\u201d idea knowledge for students rather than content standards. <\/p>\n<p>Saipan Community School\u2019s Anne McCaslin and Dani Nowicki shared new teaching methods.<\/p>\n<p>McCaslin, a music and spiritual Bible teacher, and Nowicki, a physical education instructor, spent one hour and 30 minutes talking about \u201cconnecting learning standards to real-life standards.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>According to Nowicki, it is proper to guide student learning by listening to what they have to say in place of telling them to memorize it. <\/p>\n<p>Last school year, Snyder, McCaslin, and Dani Nowicki implemented the new methods in their respective classes and believe students preferred it compared to reading textbooks or listening to lectures. <\/p>\n<p>After lunch, attendees took part in job sharing among their peers by comparing classroom struggles and collaborating to resolve them. <\/p>\n<p>Mount Carmel president Galvin Deleon Guerrero ended the first day by borrowing the Marshmallow Challenge from the popular TED Talks series. <\/p>\n<p>Snyder said he looks forward to further learning about new teaching methodologies on the second day. <\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>A total of 110 teachers from private schools in the CNMI attended the first day&#8230;<\/p>\n","protected":false},"author":11,"featured_media":0,"comment_status":"open","ping_status":"open","sticky":false,"template":"","format":"standard","meta":{"footnotes":""},"categories":[4],"tags":[22202,16941,12690,5987],"class_list":["post-281470","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","hentry","category-local-news","tag-dani-nowicki","tag-private-schools","tag-ron-snyder","tag-saipan-community-school"],"_links":{"self":[{"href":"https:\/\/www.saipantribune.com\/index.php\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/posts\/281470","targetHints":{"allow":["GET"]}}],"collection":[{"href":"https:\/\/www.saipantribune.com\/index.php\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/posts"}],"about":[{"href":"https:\/\/www.saipantribune.com\/index.php\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/types\/post"}],"author":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/www.saipantribune.com\/index.php\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/users\/11"}],"replies":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/www.saipantribune.com\/index.php\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/comments?post=281470"}],"version-history":[{"count":0,"href":"https:\/\/www.saipantribune.com\/index.php\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/posts\/281470\/revisions"}],"wp:attachment":[{"href":"https:\/\/www.saipantribune.com\/index.php\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/media?parent=281470"}],"wp:term":[{"taxonomy":"category","embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/www.saipantribune.com\/index.php\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/categories?post=281470"},{"taxonomy":"post_tag","embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/www.saipantribune.com\/index.php\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/tags?post=281470"}],"curies":[{"name":"wp","href":"https:\/\/api.w.org\/{rel}","templated":true}]}}
