Saipan Mayor David M. Apatang filed yesterday his candidacy papers with the Commonwealth Election Commission as a Republican bet, to seek a second four-year term as mayor. <\/p>\n
In an interview shortly after he filed his candidacy, Apatang said the people of Saipan gave him the opportunity to work for them these three and a half years. <\/p>\n
Apatang said he would love to continue serving the people of Saipan and proceed with the program to \u201cmake the island beautiful for tourists to come and enjoy.\u201d<\/p>\n
He said he wants to work with government agencies, the governor and the Legislature so they can accomplish a lot these coming years. <\/p>\n
\u201cI pray to God that the people will consider me again,\u201d the mayor said, adding that he is confident that the people believe in him. \u201cI have worked for them. And I showed them what we can do with my people here, with limited number of staff that I have, we work hard for our people of the island of Saipan,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n
Apatang was an independent candidate when he ran for mayor in November 2014 and won by a big margin over three other contenders. <\/p>\n
This Nov. 6 general election, Apatang\u2019s contender so far is Board of Parole chair Ramon B. Camacho (Ind). Camacho was the second highest vote-getter for the mayoral race in the November 2016 election.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
