The Carolinian Affairs Office and Tinian Division of Youth Services collaborated to organize a youth summer program for children with ages between 5 and 17 at the Northern Marianas College.<\/p>\n
The program lasted from July 9 through July 27 and was held from Monday through Friday, starting at 12:30pm to 4:30pm. <\/p>\n
About 30 children were expected to participate, according to Division of Youth Services caseworker Monika Diaz in an earlier interview, but transportation difficulties cut that number to only 20.<\/p>\n
The children learned primarily about community leadership, with presentations by government agencies including the Division of Youth Services\u2019 Child Protection Unit, Department of Commerce, Northern Marianas CREES-Food and Nutrition Services, Voices of the CNMI-Tinian Chapter, Community Guidance Center, Northern Marianas College, Department of Labor, Department of Fire and Emergency Medical Services, and Department of Public Safety. <\/p>\n
There were also group activities, which included volleyball, basketball, and Frisbee.<\/p>\n
