The Department of Public Safety\u2019s Boating Safety Unit officers recovered yesterday afternoon a human skull found underwater near the Garapan Fishing Base.<\/p>\n
A diver with Aquasmith Pacific reported the find to DPS, saying he discovered the skull on Tuesday at 4pm, according to DPS spokesperson Jacqueline Rae.<\/p>\n
Rae said the diver was on a spear fishing tour with a client when they approached an underwater wreckage. About 75 feet to 100 feet from the wreckage, the diver noticed what he initially believed to be a rock.<\/p>\n
When the diver attempted to pick it up, the current shifted, causing him to notice it was actually a human skull.<\/p>\n
The diver notified DPS and yesterday at 2pm, he accompanied the Boating Safety officers to the Garapan Fishing Base and guided the officers to where he saw the skull.<\/p>\n
Rae said the officers will search for any additional remains and thoroughly canvas the area.<\/p>\n
\u201cIn the meantime, officials will process the skill to determine its origin,\u201d Rae said. <\/p>\n
