{"id":281936,"date":"2018-08-09T06:06:29","date_gmt":"2018-08-08T20:06:29","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.saipantribune.com\/?p=281936"},"modified":"2018-08-09T06:06:29","modified_gmt":"2018-08-08T20:06:29","slug":"human-skull-found-underwater-near-garapan-fishing-base","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.saipantribune.com\/index.php\/human-skull-found-underwater-near-garapan-fishing-base\/","title":{"rendered":"Human skull found underwater near Garapan Fishing Base"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The Department of Public Safety\u2019s Boating Safety Unit officers recovered yesterday afternoon a human skull found underwater near the Garapan Fishing Base.<\/p>\n<p>A diver with Aquasmith Pacific reported the find to DPS, saying he discovered the skull on Tuesday at 4pm, according to DPS spokesperson Jacqueline Rae.<\/p>\n<p>Rae said the diver was on a spear fishing tour with a client when they approached an underwater wreckage. About 75 feet to 100 feet from the wreckage, the diver noticed what he initially believed to be a rock.<\/p>\n<p>When the diver attempted to pick it up, the current shifted, causing him to notice it was actually a human skull.<\/p>\n<p>The diver notified DPS and yesterday at 2pm, he accompanied the Boating Safety officers to the Garapan Fishing Base and guided the officers to where he saw the skull.<\/p>\n<p>Rae said the officers will search for any additional remains and thoroughly canvas the area.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIn the meantime, officials will process the skill to determine its origin,\u201d Rae said. <\/p>\n<div id='gallery-1' class='gallery galleryid-281936 gallery-columns-3 gallery-size-thumbnail'><figure class='gallery-item'>\n\t\t\t<div class='gallery-icon '>\n\t\t\t\t<a href='https:\/\/www.saipantribune.com\/index.php\/human-skull-found-underwater-near-garapan-fishing-base\/skull-pix1\/'>Skull-pix1<\/a>\n\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<figcaption class='wp-caption-text gallery-caption' id='gallery-1-281943'>\n\t\t\t\tPhoto shows the skull that was found underwater several feet away from a wreckage near the Garapan Fishing Base Tuesday afternoon.
