Veterans registration drive on\u00a0Aug. 17, 18<\/strong><\/p>\n

The office of Delegate Gregorio Kilili C. Sablan is continuing its veterans registration drive at the Saipan Troop Store\u2019s first anniversary celebration this\u00a0Friday, Aug. 17, from\u00a010am to 1pm, and at the Joeten Superstore on\u00a0Saturday, Aug. 18, from\u00a010am to 2pm.\u00a0
\nStaff from the CNMI Office of Military\/Veterans Affairs will also be present to provide information about their services, and assist veterans in signing up for the local registry. \u00a0
\nVeterans who are interested in enrolling for Veterans Affairs healthcare, following up on benefits claims, filling out a Vet Center Needs Assessment Survey, or learning more about the federal and Commonwealth services available to them, are encouraged to stop by. Video presentation on Amelia Earhart<\/strong><\/p>\n

The Amelia Earhart Memorial Monument, Inc. Group will be featuring a special video presentation on Amelia Earhart at the American Memorial Park on Aug. 23, Thursday, at 7pm. Admission is free and all are invited. This video will feature our Chamorro elders who have seen Amelia Earhart here on Saipan in 1937. Come, listen and talk stories about a woman who opened doors, opportunities, set records, and impacted the world, the U.S., Pacific region, Micronesia, and Saipan. Another presentation will be announced at a later date for the Joeten-Kiyu Public Library. (PR)<\/p>\n

Veterans affairs visit to Saipan <\/strong><\/p>\n

A U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs benefits counselor will be at the CNMI Military\/Veterans Affairs Office on Sept. 5, 2018, from 9am to 4pm. The benefits counselor will be available to answer benefits questions, and assist with the claim process. MHS back gate to be used<\/strong><\/p>\n

Marinas High School said the back entrance gate (Texas Road) will be opened for student drop off and pick up.\u00a0 Gates will be open for morning drop off during school days between 7:15am and 8:30am and after school pick up between 3:15pm and 4:30pm.\u00a0 When using back entrance gate, parents are to make the first right turn upon entering the back gate.\u00a0 This will bring you to a loop around the gym where you can drop or pick up students. Public library closed on Aug. 25<\/strong><\/p>\n

The Joeten-Kiyu Public Library will be closed on Saturday, Aug. 25, 2018, in celebration of CNMI Labor Day. The library will reopen with regular hours on Tuesday, Aug. 28, 2018. MARC Gala set<\/strong><\/p>\n

The Richard F.\u00a0Taitano\u00a0Micronesian Area Research Center at the University of Guam will celebrate 50 years of growth as a cultural repository and library with an anniversary gala dinner on Aug. 21 at the Sheraton Laguna Guam Resort\u2019s Ocean Sirena Ballroom. Proceeds from the dinner will be used to fund scholarships for graduate students at UOG. Call for youth musicians extended<\/strong><\/p>\n

The newly established Tumon Bay Youth Orchestra has extended auditions for their inaugural 2019 music season to Sept. 7, 2018.\u00a0 This second call out is specifically for the members of the community that have recently relocated to Guam, and for current residents that may have missed the initial call for musicians.\u00a0In our initial call for members in May 2018, close to 60 youth from Guam and Saipan have auditioned for the orchestra.\u00a0 The orchestra plans to tour Australia in the summer of 2019. Rehearsals will begin mid-September 2019. Auditions are open to all who play violin, viola, cello, upright bass, percussion, oboe, bassoon, French horn, trombone, tuba and percussion with at least three years playing experience and are under the age of 25 by Dec. 31, 2019.
