{"id":282458,"date":"2018-08-17T06:00:45","date_gmt":"2018-08-16T20:00:45","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.saipantribune.com\/?p=282458"},"modified":"2018-08-17T06:00:45","modified_gmt":"2018-08-16T20:00:45","slug":"tropical-disturbance-now-a-storm","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.saipantribune.com\/index.php\/tropical-disturbance-now-a-storm\/","title":{"rendered":"Tropical disturbance now a storm"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The tropical disturbance that was located near Guam earlier this week has progressed into Tropical Storm Soulik, even as it spins away from the Marianas region. <\/p>\n<p>Last Wednesday, the National Weather Services in Tiyan, Guam, announced that a tropical disturbance was centered about 220 miles southeast of Guam and was causing showers and thunderstorms that was affecting the Marianas. <\/p>\n<p>As of 1:04pm yesterday, the disturbance was located at 220 northwest of Guam and 210 miles west-northwest of Saipan and has been named Tropical Storm Soulik. <\/p>\n<p>Soulik could further progress into a typhoon later tonight or Saturday morning as it continues to whirl away from the Marianas. <\/p>\n<p>As of yesterday, Tropical Storm Soulik was moving north-northwest at 20 miles per hour and is expected to maintain this general course with a slight decrease in forward speed over the next 24 hours. <\/p>\n<p>The Marianas can expect maximum sustained winds of 40 mph and hazardous surf that will carry on until Monday. <\/p>\n<p>According to a weather announcement from the National Weather Services, waves and surf will remain a hazardous at 8 to 12 feet along south-facing reefs and between 7 and 10 feet along west-facing reefs that will result in high-risk rip currents. <\/p>\n<p>Residents of the Marianas are encouraged to avoid venturing near reef lines and beaches. <\/p>\n<p>The National Weather Services advices that, if caught in a rip current, swimmers must swim parallel to the shore and back toward the beach. <\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The tropical disturbance that was located near Guam earlier this week has progressed into Tropical&#8230;<\/p>\n","protected":false},"author":24,"featured_media":0,"comment_status":"open","ping_status":"open","sticky":false,"template":"","format":"standard","meta":{"footnotes":""},"categories":[4],"tags":[51,2334,22358,22359],"class_list":["post-282458","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","hentry","category-local-news","tag-guam","tag-last-wednesday","tag-national-weather-services","tag-tropical-storm-soulik"],"_links":{"self":[{"href":"https:\/\/www.saipantribune.com\/index.php\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/posts\/282458","targetHints":{"allow":["GET"]}}],"collection":[{"href":"https:\/\/www.saipantribune.com\/index.php\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/posts"}],"about":[{"href":"https:\/\/www.saipantribune.com\/index.php\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/types\/post"}],"author":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/www.saipantribune.com\/index.php\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/users\/24"}],"replies":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/www.saipantribune.com\/index.php\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/comments?post=282458"}],"version-history":[{"count":0,"href":"https:\/\/www.saipantribune.com\/index.php\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/posts\/282458\/revisions"}],"wp:attachment":[{"href":"https:\/\/www.saipantribune.com\/index.php\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/media?parent=282458"}],"wp:term":[{"taxonomy":"category","embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/www.saipantribune.com\/index.php\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/categories?post=282458"},{"taxonomy":"post_tag","embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/www.saipantribune.com\/index.php\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/tags?post=282458"}],"curies":[{"name":"wp","href":"https:\/\/api.w.org\/{rel}","templated":true}]}}
