{"id":282806,"date":"2018-08-22T06:06:58","date_gmt":"2018-08-21T20:06:58","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.saipantribune.com\/?p=282806"},"modified":"2018-08-22T06:06:58","modified_gmt":"2018-08-21T20:06:58","slug":"nmc-looks-for-new-president","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.saipantribune.com\/index.php\/nmc-looks-for-new-president\/","title":{"rendered":"NMC looks for new president"},"content":{"rendered":"<figure id=\"attachment_282814\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-282814\" style=\"width: 259px\" class=\"wp-caption alignright\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.saipantribune.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/08\/Carmen-Fernandez-2017.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.saipantribune.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/08\/Carmen-Fernandez-2017-259x300.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"259\" height=\"300\" class=\"size-medium wp-image-282814\" \/><\/a><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-282814\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Carmen Fernandez<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>The Northern Marianas College is looking for a new president after incumbent president Dr. Carmen Fernandez opted not to renew her contract.<\/p>\n<p>The college said a presidential search committee would be created to identify new candidates.<\/p>\n<p>In a statement to Saipan Tribune yesterday, NMC announced that Fernandez had opted not to have her employment contract, which expires on Oct. 3, 2018, renewed.<\/p>\n<p>Since the news was brought to the attention of the Board of Regents during their special meeting last Friday, Saipan Tribune learned yesterday that the NMC board would initiate the search to identify a new candidate for the college while an interim president has yet to be announced. No explanation was provided why Fernandez opted not to renew her contract.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe Board of Regents would like to thank Dr. Fernandez for her commitment and dedication to NMC the last two years and wish her well in her new endeavors,\u201d said NMC BOR chair Charles V. Cepeda.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe remain committed to NMC\u2019s mission and will work with the interim president to ensure that the college continues to provide high-quality standard of education and services during the transition,\u201d he added.<\/p>\n<p>In a separate statement, Fernandez said it was an \u201chonor and pleasure\u201d to work with the staff and faculty of NMC. She highlighted the rising graduation rates and other \u201cmetrics of success\u201d that continue to show \u201csignificant gains.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Fernandez became the college\u2019s president back in Sept. 30, 2016. She succeeded former NMC president Dr. Sharon Hart.
