Won Pat International Airport\u00a0has been awarded a new $15,967,572 federal grant by the Federal Aviation Administration of the U.S. Department of Transportation.<\/p>\n<p>This more than $15.9 million federal funding award will allow the Antonio B. Won Pat International Airport Authority to construct a new aircraft rescue and firefighting building, to improve safety and rescue capabilities at the airport. <\/p>\n<p>This multimillion dollar federal award is on top of $3.5 million awarded to Airport Authority\u00a0in September 2017\u00a0and another $5 million federal grant\u00a0in September 2016, which funded the building project\u2019s design phase. <\/p>\n<p>Guam\u2019s only civilian airport serves some 3.6 million travelers each year, according to the most recent figures. <\/p>\n<p>Groundbreaking for the building construction is expected to begin later this fall.<\/p>\n<p>Each year, Delegate Madeleine Z. Bordallo (D-GU) works in the U.S. Congress to secure millions in federal funding to support civilian infrastructure projects on Guam, like capital improvement projects at the Antonio B. Won Pat International Airport.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI am thrilled to see more than $15.9 million in new federal funding come to the Guam International Airport for construction of the new aircraft rescue and firefighting building.
