For this Nov. 6 general election, there has been no drastic increase in the number of registered voters on Tinian, according to Commonwealth Election Commission executive director Julita Villagomez. <\/p>\n
As of yesterday, Tinian has 1,727 registered voters, which is an increase of just 20 to 30 voters from 2016, the last election, Villagomez said. <\/p>\n
She said they don\u2019t have the data as to how many of those 1,727 registered voters are currently not on Tinian.<\/p>\n
As of yesterday, Rota has 1,957 voters, while Saipan and the Northern Islands have a combined total of 14,545. <\/p>\n
This brings the total number of registered voters in the CNMI to 18,229\u2014an all-time high.<\/p>\n
In a recent letter to the editor, CNMI historian and former Board of Education member Don Farrell had expressed doubt about CEC\u2019s count of about 1,707 registered Tinian voters at that time. <\/p>\n
Farrell said the number is too high; he asked how many are from off-island. He also asked when the final registration will be completed and how will citizens challenge the votes of people who are not eligible.<\/p>\n
On the question about challenging the votes, Villagomez said that people can bring the matter before the CEC, which will then make a determination.
