{"id":283581,"date":"2018-09-03T06:06:25","date_gmt":"2018-09-02T20:06:25","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.saipantribune.com\/?p=283581"},"modified":"2018-09-03T06:06:25","modified_gmt":"2018-09-02T20:06:25","slug":"epa-funds-cuc-rota-project-to-ensure-24-hour-water-supply","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.saipantribune.com\/index.php\/epa-funds-cuc-rota-project-to-ensure-24-hour-water-supply\/","title":{"rendered":"EPA funds CUC Rota project to ensure 24-hour water supply"},"content":{"rendered":"<figure id=\"attachment_283582\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-283582\" style=\"width: 214px\" class=\"wp-caption alignright\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.saipantribune.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/09\/John-Tinger.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.saipantribune.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/09\/John-Tinger-214x300.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"214\" height=\"300\" class=\"size-medium wp-image-283582\" \/><\/a><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-283582\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">John Tinger<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency is funding a Commonwealth Utilities Corp. project on Rota with a projected cost of $750,000 to ensure that its residents will have consistent access to 24-hour water supply. <\/p>\n<p>While Rota already has a 24-hour water supply, the improvements under Phase II project will ensure the reliability of that system, according to EPA\u2019s designated project coordinator John Tinger.<\/p>\n<p>In his declaration filed in federal court, Tinger said the Rota project will include system-wide drinking water improvements to replace valves, provide back-up power generators, and install fencing.<\/p>\n<p>Concrete closures would be installed to protect water from contamination, as well as new solar panels and new water lines.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe project is under development,\u201d said Tinger, who is EPA\u2019s coordinator for the court order called Stipulated Order No. 1.<\/p>\n<p>SO1 focuses on drinking water and wastewater and the restructuring of CUC\u2019s organization.
