{"id":283714,"date":"2018-09-04T06:06:53","date_gmt":"2018-09-03T20:06:53","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.saipantribune.com\/?p=283714"},"modified":"2018-09-04T06:06:53","modified_gmt":"2018-09-03T20:06:53","slug":"september-is-dedicated-to-preparedness","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.saipantribune.com\/index.php\/september-is-dedicated-to-preparedness\/","title":{"rendered":"September is dedicated to preparedness"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The month of September has been proclaimed CNMI Preparedness Month to educate every resident of the Commonwealth on how to prepare their homes, businesses, and communities for any emergencies, including natural disasters and potential terrorist attacks. <\/p>\n<p>Homeland Security and Emergency Management Office hosted the proclamation signing of CNMI Preparedness Month last Thursday, in line National Preparedness Month. <\/p>\n<p>Acting governor Victor B. Hocog signed the proclamation. <\/p>\n<p>This year\u2019s theme is \u201cDisasters Happen. Prepare Now. Learn How.\u201d that will highlight the importance of having an emergency plan and exercising it, learning and educating people about life-saving skills, reviewing insurance coverages to understand its importance and ensuring the appropriate protection for residents in times of disasters, and enhancing one\u2019s capability to save for emergencies. <\/p>\n<p>According to HSEM information officer Nadine Deleon Guerrero, HSEM has prepared a series of preparedness awareness trainings for tsunami, earthquakes, and man-made disasters like nuclear attacks or active shootings. <\/p>\n<p>\u201cBank of Guam\u2026will also teach how to save for emergencies,\u201d she said. <\/p>\n<p>Deleon Guerrero said that different agencies have agreed to partner with HSEM to prepare different emergency kits. \u201cFor example, the Maternal and Child Health Bureau will\u2026help prepare kits for new moms,\u201d she said. <\/p>\n<p>Deleon Guerrero said this year\u2019s events will be far bigger than last year and will only continue to grow. \u201cIt\u2019s a collaborative effort and it\u2019s going to be a lot bigger than last year\u2026we have other agencies partnering with us and it has really turned into a community effort.
