Two earthquakes that were both in the 5.0-magnitude range shook the CNMI in recent days. That came soon after a 6.6 magnitude earthquake was felt in the Marianas just a few days ago.<\/p>\n
Last Monday, Sept. 3, at around 11pm, the first earthquake, a 5.3-magnitude earthquake, shook the Marianas. <\/p>\n
According to a report from the Homeland Security and Emergency Management Office, the first earthquake occurred 197 miles east-southeast of Pagan, at a depth of 5.5 miles. <\/p>\n
The second earthquake occurred shortly after 9am yesterday. The second tremor was 5.0-magnitude earthquake that was located 39 miles south-southeast of Pagan. The earthquake had a depth of 118 miles. <\/p>\n
According to Homeland Security information officer Nadine Deleon Guerrero, there have been no reports of injuries or damage and there were no tsunami warnings. <\/p>\n
Tremors happen daily in the CNMI region but are usually aren\u2019t felt.<\/p>\n
When asked when the CNMI community should take action, Deleon Guerrero said evacuation is necessary once the earthquake is reported to be a magnitude 8.1 or higher or if the tremor lasts for more than 20 seconds.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
