Connelley, Rowena S. Dela Cruz, Linda Tatreau, and Bernard Watson\u00a0for their leadership,\u00a0support, and dedicated service to the island community and for promoting the university&#8217;s Cooperative Extension and Outreach in Guam.<\/p>\n<p>The honorees will be recognized at the Extension Annual Meeting on Thursday, Sept. 20, 2018, at the Dusit Thani Resort Guam.\u00a0Of the four nominees, one will be\u00a0selected to receive the\u00a0Guam\u00a0Friend of Extension Award\u00a0and will\u00a0be submitted for recognition throughout the national extension\u00a0system.<\/p>\n<p>The event will\u00a0also showcase education\u00a0and program impacts\u00a0from the university&#8217;s research and extension efforts to address the needs of Guam and its communities.\u00a0(UOG)<\/p>\n<p><strong>CRM: Permittees must have land use permits <\/strong><\/p>\n<p>The Division of Coastal Resources Management has informed all current and future permittees that they must have land use permissions to engage in projects or activities at proposed site locations. For private lands, submission of proof of valid leases are required. For public lands, permission from the Department of Public Lands or, in the case of submerged lands or within marine protected areas, the Department of Lands and Natural Resources, may be required. (PR)<\/p>\n<p><strong>Weightlifting Federation meeting on Saturday<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>The CNMI Weightlifting Federation invites all persons interested in the sport of weightlifting to an open meeting to be held on Saturday, Sept. 8, 2018, starting at 10:30am at the NMPASI conference room in Gualo Rai, Saipan. (PR)<\/p>\n<p><strong>CHamoru commission meetings in Sept., Oct.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>The\u00a0Kumisi\u00f3n i Fino\u2019 CHamoru yan i Fina\u2019n\u00e5\u2019guen i Historia yan i Lina\u2019la\u2019 i Taotao T\u00e5no\u2019\u00a0(Commission on CHamoru Language and the Teaching of the History\u00a0and Culture of the Indigenous People of Guam)\u00a0will have its\u00a0September and October monthly meetings on Thursday,\u00a0Sept. 13\u00a0and 27 and Oct. 11 and 25, from 12:30pm to 3pm at the Department of Parks and Recreation Paseo conference room in Hag\u00e5t\u00f1a.\u00a0Agenda items include but are not limited to: approval of minutes, reports from the chair, vice chair, secretary and committee chairs, financial matters, orthography revisions, and strategic plans and implementation activities. (PR)<\/p>\n<p><strong>Military training at Warning Area 517, FDM <\/strong><\/p>\n<p>The military will conduct training at Warning Area 517 on Sept. 5 and 6, from 3pm to 11pm.<\/p>\n<p>The military will also conduct training at the Island of Farallon de Medinilla during the following dates and times: <\/p>\n<p>&#8211; Sept. 5, from 11am to 2pm <\/p>\n<p>&#8211; Sept. 9, from 12:01am to 11:55pm<\/p>\n<p>It is recommended that the public, fishermen, and marine tour operators monitor the Coast Guard broadcast notice to mariners for advisories. <\/p>\n<p>W-517 is activated south of latitude 12\u00b0 40\u2019 00&#8243;N. Santa Rosa Reef and Galvez Banks are open for public use.<br \/>\nThe general location of the training on the island of Farallon de Medinilla will be in a 12-nautical mile radius of the island.
