Humphrey, CBP is responsible for protecting the borders and ensuring the lawful flow of persons and goods into our country.

“In discussions with the Gov. Ralph DLG Torres, adding five officer positions is one of the next steps we are taking here in the NMI. This additional officer positions…will add strength to the existing number of officers at the airport,” he said

Humphrey said there are five local hires who are currently in the training academy.

“This is a good message in terms of staffing and recruitment and we are headed in that direction. CBP also have plans of having job vacancy announcement every month as we only pick a select number of locations with critical needs and add that as an option for someone to apply as a starting point to begin their federal career,” he added.

Humphrey said that staffing is a critical component in the CBP but over the years they’ve had a complete change of mindset, working with partners and what international travel means in the CNMI.

“We no longer view this as only a CBP experience as we work very closely with the Commonwealth Ports Authority, carriers, we’ve signed public partnership agreements for reimbursable services, the facilities, and technology that CPA and Marianas Visitors Authority have been supportive in rolling out,” he said,

“So it’s more than just CBP or staffing issue—it’s the whole experience as well as working with the administration. We are excited where we are and where we are headed as CBP and our role contributing to the community. …We know we have a role to play in terms of helping foster lawful travel and trade, expanding economic opportunities, travel opportunities for visitors while at the same time, protecting the border,” he added.

U.S. Customs and Border Protection is amplifying its workforce by opening five officer positions in…

[4
2130,26,1198,122
post-283888","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","has-post-thumbnail","hentry","category-local-news","tag-cbp","tag-cnmi","tag-commonwealth-ports-authority","tag-travel
["GET
