{"id":284086,"date":"2018-09-08T15:36:50","date_gmt":"2018-09-08T05:36:50","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.saipantribune.com\/?p=284086"},"modified":"2018-09-08T15:36:50","modified_gmt":"2018-09-08T05:36:50","slug":"breaking-news-mangkhut-seen-to-become-cat-4-typhoon","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.saipantribune.com\/index.php\/breaking-news-mangkhut-seen-to-become-cat-4-typhoon\/","title":{"rendered":"BREAKING NEWS: Mangkhut seen to become Cat. 4 typhoon"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Tropical Storm Mangkhut is expected to gradually intensify into a Category 4 typhoon as it approaches the Marianas early this week.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Tropical Disturbance 26W, now named Tropical Storm Mangkhut, was last seen moving west-northwest at 17 mph and is forecasted to continue in this motion for the next few days.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Mangkhut is forecasted to intensify into a Category 4 typhoon by Sunday afternoon and would reach the Marianas by Monday evening.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>The forecasted point of impact is the island of Guam but intense weather conditions will be felt in the Commonwealth of the Northern Marianas Islands as Tropical Storm force weather conditions extend up to 105 miles from Mangkhut\u2019s center.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>According to Wikipedia, a Category 4\u00a0is the second-highest hurricane classification\u00a0category\u00a0on the Saffir\u2013Simpson Hurricane Scale, and\u00a0storms\u00a0that are of this intensity have maximum sustained winds of 113\u2013136 knots (130\u2013156 mph, 209\u2013251 km\/h).
