{"id":284176,"date":"2018-09-10T06:06:44","date_gmt":"2018-09-09T20:06:44","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.saipantribune.com\/?p=284176"},"modified":"2018-09-10T06:06:44","modified_gmt":"2018-09-09T20:06:44","slug":"over-100-people-beat-fridays-cec-deadline","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.saipantribune.com\/index.php\/over-100-people-beat-fridays-cec-deadline\/","title":{"rendered":"Over 100 people beat Friday\u2019s CEC deadline"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Over 100 people went to the Commonwealth Election Commission in Susupe last Friday, the deadline to register as voters for the Nov. 6 general election. <\/p>\n<p>CEC administrative officer Kayla Igitol said Saturday said Friday was the deadline not only for new registration, but also those who need to re-register.<\/p>\n<p>Igitol said some also showed up to update their registration information by changing their names and mailing address.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe had a good outcome [Friday]. It was non-stop,\u201d she said, adding that most of those who came are from Saipan.<\/p>\n<p>Igitol said they could not provide the exact number yet of the registered voters because they are still inputting the registration.<\/p>\n<p>She said the last number was over 18,500, but it could be higher than that because they are still receiving registration in the mails.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIf it is postmarked before the seventh [of September], we have to process that registration,\u201d Igitol said.<\/p>\n<p>She said CEC may come up with the final number of registered voters by the end of this month. <\/p>\n<p>Igitol said CEC commissioners also did registration on Tinian and Rota last Friday. <\/p>\n<p>CEC executive director Julita Villagomez conducted registration in Hawaii last Sept. 4 and 5. <\/p>\n<p>CEC recently reported that there were over 18,200 registered voters in the CNMI for this year\u2019s election, which is a record-breaking high. <\/p>\n<p>Meanwhile, CEC started opening the request for absentee ballots last Aug. 23.
