The Marianas Visitors Authority is aggressively working to revive the Japan market to bring back the CNMI\u2019s market share to acceptable levels as part of MVA\u2019s goal of having a diversified tourism economy.<\/p>\n
MVA managing director Christopher A. Concepcion told Saipan Tribune that reviving the Japan market will balance out their portfolio going forward.<\/p>\n
Concepcion said MVA has set a strategic goal of having a diversified tourism economy with 30 percent coming from Japan, 30 percent from Korea, 30 percent from China, and 10 percent from Taiwan, Russia, and everywhere else.<\/p>\n
At present, Japan accounts for only 7 percent market of the market. <\/p>\n
He said MVA is thankful to Gov. Ralph DLG Torres for reiterating their \u201c30-30-30 strategic goal\u201d in his State of the Commonwealth Address last Aug. 24.<\/p>\n
In his SOCA, Torres said his goal remains the same\u2014a resilient, stable, and strong tourism economy that is built on the principle of 30 percent Japan, 30 percent Korea, and 30 percent China.<\/p>\n
Citing Torres\u2019 announcement that Skymark Airlines plans to launch flights from Tokyo to Saipan, Concepcion said this will be the start of the revitalization of the Japan market.<\/p>\n
\u201cWe are excited about Skymark,\u201d said Concepcion, adding that MVA is also working on direct flights from Taipei to Saipan and that they hope to make such an announcement very soon. <\/p>\n
\u201cWe have good momentum already so this will be exciting,\u201d the managing director said.<\/p>\n
Skymark Airlines, Japan\u2019s third largest carrier, will be the first Japan-based carrier in the CNMI since 2005, when Japan Airlines left. <\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
