{"id":284752,"date":"2018-09-18T06:00:28","date_gmt":"2018-09-17T20:00:28","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.saipantribune.com\/?p=284752"},"modified":"2018-09-18T06:00:28","modified_gmt":"2018-09-17T20:00:28","slug":"red-cross-responds-to-mangkhut-victims","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.saipantribune.com\/index.php\/red-cross-responds-to-mangkhut-victims\/","title":{"rendered":"Red Cross responds to Mangkhut victims"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Fifty volunteers who received training on how to conduct damage assessment were mobilized in the wake of Typhoon Mangkhut, according to Red Cross-NMI Chapter executive director John Hirsh.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThese volunteers are doing general damage assessments [all throughout the CNMI],\u201d he said.<\/p>\n<p>Hirsh noted that since several teams left Thursday last week for Rota and Tinian to help volunteers and partner agencies in damage assessment.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe Red Cross sent six pallets of relief supplies [through] ship to Rota [Thursday]. Supplies included cleaning kits, flashlights, mosquito nets, blankets, hygiene kits, water containers, tarps, and cots. Supplies will be sent to Tinian as well pending further assessment,\u201d he noted.<\/p>\n<p>Gov. Ralph DLG Torres over the weekend headed to Tinian to conduct damage assessments with Tinian Mayor Joey Patrick San Nicolas. <\/p>\n<p>Red Cross volunteers from the U.S. mainland are also in Guam to support ongoing relief there, according to Hirsh.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThese responders are experts in disaster response and recovery,\u201d he added.<\/p>\n<p>Hirsh urges the public to call Red Cross for \u201cmajor damage\u201d assistance of homes due to Mangkhut at 234-3459.
