{"id":284847,"date":"2018-09-19T06:00:43","date_gmt":"2018-09-18T20:00:43","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.saipantribune.com\/?p=284847"},"modified":"2018-09-19T06:00:43","modified_gmt":"2018-09-18T20:00:43","slug":"3rd-suspect-in-clandestine-ice-lab-case-pleads-guilty","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.saipantribune.com\/index.php\/3rd-suspect-in-clandestine-ice-lab-case-pleads-guilty\/","title":{"rendered":"3rd suspect in clandestine \u2018ice\u2019 lab case pleads guilty"},"content":{"rendered":"<figure id=\"attachment_284851\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-284851\" style=\"width: 600px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.saipantribune.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/09\/Heather-Kennedy.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"600\" height=\"910\" class=\"size-full wp-image-284851\" \/><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-284851\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Kennedy<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>One of five men charged over an alleged clandestine \u201cice\u201d laboratory on Saipan pleaded guilty in federal court Monday afternoon. <\/p>\n<p>Vincent David Cabrera Jr. pleaded guilty to conspiracy to manufacture crystal methamphetamine as part of a plea deal.<\/p>\n<p>The offense carries a maximum penalty of not more than 20 years in prison, a fine not exceeding $1 million, supervised release of not less than three years, restitution, and a $100 special penalty.<\/p>\n<p>Under the plea deal, Cabrera\u2019s prison sentence will range from 210 to 240 months because the statutory maximum for the offense to which he pleaded guilty to is 20 years.<\/p>\n<p>U.S. District Court for the NMI Magistrate Judge Heather L. Kennedy recommended that Chief Judge Ramona V. Manglona accept the plea.<\/p>\n<p>Cabrera\u2019s jury trial set for Oct. 2 was vacated.<\/p>\n<p>Assistant U.S. attorney Garth Backe and Cabrera\u2019s court-appointed counsel Benjamin Petersburg, did not object to unsealing of the plea deal.<\/p>\n<p>According to Cabrera\u2019s factual admissions, between July 1, 2017, and Feb. 25, 2018, he, along with Eugene Blas Repeki Jr., Rick Urumelog Omar Jr., Sidney Capelle Kani, and others, agreed to make \u2018ice.\u201d Cabrera said he knew of this and agreed to help.
