{"id":284917,"date":"2018-09-20T06:06:45","date_gmt":"2018-09-19T20:06:45","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.saipantribune.com\/?p=284917"},"modified":"2018-09-20T06:06:45","modified_gmt":"2018-09-19T20:06:45","slug":"red-cross-provides-emergency-aid-to-mangkhut-victims","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.saipantribune.com\/index.php\/red-cross-provides-emergency-aid-to-mangkhut-victims\/","title":{"rendered":"Red Cross provides emergency aid to Mangkhut victims"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The disaster relief team of the American Red Cross-NMI Chapter is providing emergency supplies to those impacted by Typhoon Mangkhut. <\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe\u2019re prioritizing families whose homes were the most heavily damaged areas\u201d said John Hirsh, executive director. \u201cOur teams are [on] Saipan, Tinian, and Rota making assessments, meeting with disaster survivors, providing emergency recovery items and providing financial assistance.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Disaster program manager J.D. Tenorio said that families on Rota have been the most impacted by this storm \u201cand we\u2019re focusing our relief efforts in the hardest hit villages. We want to relieve as much immediate suffering as we can by coordinating with all our partners to help the most vulnerable.\u201d <\/p>\n<p>The Red Cross provides supplies such as tarps, clean up and hygiene kits, mosquito nets, water containers, totes, flashlights, gloves, shovels, and trash bags. <\/p>\n<p>In addition, the Red Cross is visiting families with a nurse and a social worker. If a family has sustained major damage and needs Red Cross Support, they should call 234-3459 to set up an appointment with a trained caseworker. <\/p>\n<p>Disaster assistance is free to families, made possible through donations.
