{"id":286472,"date":"2018-10-11T06:06:39","date_gmt":"2018-10-10T20:06:39","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.saipantribune.com\/?p=286472"},"modified":"2018-10-11T06:06:39","modified_gmt":"2018-10-10T20:06:39","slug":"fallen-heroes-honored-this-week","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.saipantribune.com\/index.php\/fallen-heroes-honored-this-week\/","title":{"rendered":"Fallen heroes honored this week"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>[embedyt] https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=1yPKSexUmmg&amp;width=500&amp;height=350[\/embedyt]<\/p>\n<p>Fallen heroes, along with current emergency response teams in the CNMI, are being honored this week in remembrance of the events last Sept. 11, 2001, and the quick action of first responders that made the difference.<\/p>\n<p>The lives of past and current firefighters, police officers, first responders, military veterans, and military men who put their lives on the line each day are being honored for a week starting yesterday until Oct. 17, 2018.<\/p>\n<p>As part of the remembrance, American flags would be on display at the American Memorial Park on Saipan from Oct. 14 to Oct. 22 in honor of those who have and continue to serve and defend the nation.<\/p>\n<p>On Tinian and Rota, flags would be on display starting Oct. 15, 2018, at the Veterans Memorial Park and the Joaquin Ogo Baseball Field, respectively.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cSept. 11, 2001, affected not just our lives [in the nation] but worldwide,\u201d said Gov. Ralph DLG Torres. \u201cSept. 11 created a whole new world\u2026a whole new approach not just for our safety, but also for travelling here in our home. \u2026We should always appreciate our [first responder] employees today, and we should never forget those who have fallen\u2014our heroes.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The Tan Siu Lin Foundation, the charity arm of TanHoldings Inc., would host a Freedom Walk on Oct. 17, 2018, starting at 5pm from the Garapan Fishing Base to the American Memorial Park, immediately followed by the 9\/11 ceremony at the Field of Heroes site. The flags would be retired on Oct. 22.<\/p>\n<p>The TSL Foundation has been organizing this event for three years in a row now.<\/p>\n<p>On Tinian, the posting of flags starts on Oct. 15, 2018, and they would be retired on Oct. 26, 2018. The Freedom Walk and 9\/11 ceremony has yet to be announced.<\/p>\n<p>On Rota, the posting of flags starts also on Oct. 15, 2018, and would be retired on Oct. 27, 2018.
