{"id":286517,"date":"2018-10-12T06:06:20","date_gmt":"2018-10-11T20:06:20","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.saipantribune.com\/?p=286517"},"modified":"2018-10-12T06:06:20","modified_gmt":"2018-10-11T20:06:20","slug":"deadline-to-apply-for-absentee-voting-today","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.saipantribune.com\/index.php\/deadline-to-apply-for-absentee-voting-today\/","title":{"rendered":"Deadline to apply for absentee voting today"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The deadline to apply for absentee voting by electronic\/mail is today, Friday, according to Commonwealth Election Commission executive director Julita Villagomez.<\/p>\n<p>As of yesterday, 89 out of 177 Northern Islands voters, or 50.28 percent, had already cast their votes for the Nov. 6 general election.<\/p>\n<p>In an interview with Saipan Tribune yesterday, Villagomez said with respect to application for absentee voting, the deadline will be today, Friday, at 4pm for walk-ins, and that the cut-off for those who avail of electronic application is also today at midnight.<\/p>\n<p>Villagomez said walk-in absentee ballot applicants need to bring an identification card and fill up the application over the counter at CEC\u2019s office in Susupe.<\/p>\n<p>CEC started accepting request for absentee ballots last Aug. 23.<\/p>\n<p>CEC\u2019s records show that as of yesterday, there were 1,982 who were given absentee ballots. They reside mostly in the U.S. mainland, Guam, and Hawaii.<\/p>\n<p>There are two absentee voters in Japan, two in the Philippines, and one each in Switzerland and Canada.<\/p>\n<p>Regarding early voting for the Northern Islands, Villagomez said the process has been running \u201cpretty good.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>As of Tuesday, 89 have already voted; no one voted in the past two days.<\/p>\n<p>Villagomez disclosed that starting Oct. 15, they will be moving the polling place for the Northern Islands early voters from the CEC office to Pedro P.
