The owner of Bank of Guam has been holding some settlement talks with a man who sued the bank in federal court over alleged injuries he suffered when a cup of hot coffee he was holding spilled on his hand after the elevator in the bank\u2019s building in Garapan shook violently. <\/p>\n
At a status conference last Thursday, U.S. District Court for the NMI Chief Judge Ramona V. Manglona asked for an update in the lawsuit filed by Randyl W. Kruid against BankGuam Holding Co. <\/p>\n
According to the minutes of the conference, Kruid\u2019s lawyer, Benjamin Petersburg, told the court about the settlement talks, saying they expect to resolve the matter in the next couple of weeks.<\/p>\n
Petersburg said they are also trying to locate an expert in elevator maintenance and noted there is a possibility of adding a party to the case.<\/p>\n
Thomas Clifford, counsel for BankGuam Holding Co., agreed that there have been such discussions. <\/p>\n
Manglona noted the deadlines for discovery were approaching and stated that the parties can request for an earlier settlement conference if they would like to schedule one.<\/p>\n
Kruid is suing BankGuam for negligence. He is demanding unspecified damages.<\/p>\n
According to the complaint, Kruid spilled hit coffee on his hand last Nov. 22 when the elevator at the Bank of Guam building shook as he was going up to the fourth floor, where he worked.<\/p>\n
