An insurance company on Saipan donated yesterday a hole-in-one cash prize for the Joeten-Kiyu Public Library Golf Tournament next week.<\/p>\n
Pacifica Insurance Underwriters, Inc., led by president Shirley Sablan, donated $5,000 for the cash prize to anybody who makes a hole-in-one on hole No. 7 of the Laolao Bay Golf & Resort West Course during the 4th Annual JKPL Golf Tournament on Oct. 27, 2018.<\/p>\n
In a previous interview with acting JKPL director Beth Demapan, she noted that that the tournament helps finance library activities such as the Collaborative Summer Library Program and the Bookmobile Outreach Literacy Services, two of its most popular programs.<\/p>\n
The programs also contribute to the steadily rising number of patrons visiting the library, which is at 104,224 in fiscal year 2017.<\/p>\n
JKPL board chair George Camacho expressed gratitude for the donation.<\/p>\n
\u201c\u2026Partnership with good people such as Pacifica Insurance as well as other agencies makes this event very successful,\u201d Camacho told Saipan Tribune. \u201c\u2026It just keeps growing. All the golfers on-island know about it, and hopefully everybody comes out that day.\u201d <\/p>\n
Last year, the event raised about $10,000 for the library.<\/p>\n
Pacifica Insurance\u2019s Sablan told Saipan Tribune in an email that the whole community benefits from the library. JKPL is the CNMI\u2019s lone state library.<\/p>\n
\u201c\u2026[JKPL\u2019s] leadership and staff continue to do great things to keep our interest in reading alive. We are glad to have a bit of a hand in their growth,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n
Show time for the golf tournament is at 6:30am, while tee time starts an hour later at the Laolao Bay Golf & Resort\u2019s west course. The first place winner will pocket $400, second place will get $350, third gets $300, fourth gets $250, and fifth gets $200.<\/p>\n
Additional prizes include the longest drive award for hole No. 10 and the most accurate drive for hole No. 9 at $150.<\/p>\n
