In line with its promotional strategy to grow awareness of the Marianas as a sports tourism destination, the Marianas Visitors Authority signed an MOU with Korea Sports Promotion Foundation on Sept. 5, 2018, in Seoul. <\/p>\n

\u201cWe are very excited about our new MOU with the prestigious Korea Sports Promotion Foundation, which opens the door to publicize the 2019 Saipan Marathon and hopefully more of the sporting events we host here in the beautiful Marianas,\u201d said MVA managing director Christopher A. Concepcion, who executed the MOU with Korea Sports Promotion Foundation CEO Jae-Kee Choo at Olympic Hall in Seoul. \u201cThe purpose of the agreement is to activate, through a cooperative partnership, KSPO\u2019s National Fitness Award Program to expand tourism to the Marianas. The MOU facilitates MVA\u2019s collaboration with KSPO to promote the Saipan Marathon to Koreans wanting to challenge their physical strength by visiting our leisure destination.\u201d <\/p>\n

The first promotion undertaken through the agreement will involve 20 people selected from the National Fitness Award Program during November and December. They will participate in the 14th Saipan Marathon, which will be held on March 9, 2019. With support from the National Fitness Award Program, KSPO will utilize its marketing channels to generate news and paid\/unpaid media to maximize exposure of the Marianas and Saipan Marathon for the promotion period. As part of the exposure, an interview of Concepcion was featured on MBN TV Channel. It included a video of Saipan Marathon and introduced the Marianas. <\/p>\n

The MOU agreement will provide a basis for the MVA to expand its cooperation with KSPO for greater business growth. The terms will be reassessed yearly and further MOUs could also involve promotion of various other Marianas\u2019 sports events, such as Tagaman triathlon, Rota Blue triathlon, and Hell of the Marianas.
