{"id":287043,"date":"2018-10-22T06:03:12","date_gmt":"2018-10-21T20:03:12","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.saipantribune.com\/?p=287043"},"modified":"2018-10-22T06:03:12","modified_gmt":"2018-10-21T20:03:12","slug":"tinian-senatorial-candidate-to-go-to-trial","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.saipantribune.com\/index.php\/tinian-senatorial-candidate-to-go-to-trial\/","title":{"rendered":"Tinian senatorial candidate to go to trial"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>A Tinian senatorial candidate who was charged with driving under the influence of alcohol has been given an official trial date. <\/p>\n<p>Tinian senatorial candidate Eric Henry Cruz San Nicolas, who pleaded not guilty to driving under the influence of alcohol back in August, has been given an official bench trial date. <\/p>\n<p>The Superior Court has set San Nicolas\u2019 bench trial for Dec. 20, 2018, at 1:30pm. <\/p>\n<p>San Nicolas is adamant about fighting the citation in court because he claims the DUI allegations against him are false.<\/p>\n<p>Aside from a DUI charge, San Nicolas was also charged with reckless driving, failure to undergo a breathalyzer test, and license violations. <\/p>\n<p>San Nicolas is among four other Tinian independent candidates who submitted petitions for nomination for Senate and House of Representatives seats.<\/p>\n<p>According to Saipan Tribune archives, San Nicolas used to serve as vice principal for Tinian High School before he became a Commonwealth Utilities Corp. board member, and is now running for a senatorial seat for the Tinian district. <\/p>\n<p>In a previous article, Department of Public Safety spokesperson Jacqueline Rae stated that a woman called the department back in July 28 about a theft incident involving San Nicolas but when officers arrived at the scene, San Nicolas was not there.
