Hopwood Middle School in Chalan Piao sustained massive damage after Super Typhoon Yutu, causing the school to close indefinitely as alternatives for the academic year have yet to be discussed.<\/p>\n<p>Based on a quick visual assessment, the school sustained major damage to all of its buildings, which number about 10.<\/p>\n<p>Principal Dr. Rizalina Liwag noted that Yutu damaged every room. There are about 70 total rooms in the campus.<\/p>\n<p>\u201c\u2026It seems that every classroom, or every room in this school [had been] affected,\u201d she said, adding that an official assessment on the school campus has yet to be made. \u201cRight now our focus is to assess all the damage of the school.\u201d <\/p>\n<p>\u201cThere is no information yet on how long the school would be closed,\u201d she added.<\/p>\n<p>Interim Education commissioner Glenn Muna noted, in a statement posted yesterday on the Public School System social media page, that public schools on Saipan and Tinian would be \u201cclosed until further notice.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cPSS is currently working on a plan to get schools open as soon as possible. For now, please keep an eye on further updates on our Facebook page as information will be posted weekly,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n<p>When asked on the possible options for parents and students on alternatives for their education, Liwag noted that it has yet to be discussed. <\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Admiral Herbert G.
