Admiral Herbert G. Hopwood Middle School in Chalan Piao sustained massive damage after Super Typhoon Yutu, causing the school to close indefinitely as alternatives for the academic year have yet to be discussed.<\/p>\n
Based on a quick visual assessment, the school sustained major damage to all of its buildings, which number about 10.<\/p>\n
Principal Dr. Rizalina Liwag noted that Yutu damaged every room. There are about 70 total rooms in the campus.<\/p>\n
\u201c\u2026It seems that every classroom, or every room in this school [had been] affected,\u201d she said, adding that an official assessment on the school campus has yet to be made. \u201cRight now our focus is to assess all the damage of the school.\u201d <\/p>\n
\u201cThere is no information yet on how long the school would be closed,\u201d she added.<\/p>\n
Interim Education commissioner Glenn Muna noted, in a statement posted yesterday on the Public School System social media page, that public schools on Saipan and Tinian would be \u201cclosed until further notice.\u201d<\/p>\n
\u201cPSS is currently working on a plan to get schools open as soon as possible. For now, please keep an eye on further updates on our Facebook page as information will be posted weekly,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n
