Saipan Community School is getting ready to open its doors to its students on Monday.<\/p>\n
According to SCS principal Amanda Dunn, structural damage to the school wrought by Super Typhoon Yutu amounts to about $300,000, not taking into account curricular damage, which were drenched after its storage house\u2019s roof was blown away.<\/p>\n
SCS lost several roofs to Yutu, including a barely two-month-old roof for the generator room, costing about $30,000.<\/p>\n
But since the school has been receiving help from both students and staff members, Dunn said SCS reopening on Monday is imminent.<\/p>\n
\u201c\u2026It should have taken a lot longer for us to move everything we\u2019ve [cleaned], but because we have such great manpower, it has been [already moved],\u201d she said.<\/p>\n
According to Dunn, a lot of SCS students live near the area. <\/p>\n
Dunn said she is only waiting for the power; some water delivery; and for the Saipan Mayor\u2019s Office to pick up the debris before the school can reopen.<\/p>\n
Dunn added that a senior pastor residing in the campus also had his roof blown off.<\/p>\n
\u201cThe biggest thing right now is that we are cleaning the campus and making it safe and secure so we can start classes,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n
The school serves about 131 students, from Kindergarten through 8th grade. <\/p>\n
SCS told Saipan Tribune yesterday that as of 3:30pm, they only needed water in the 2nd and 3rd grade bathrooms to continue classes on Monday. The mayor\u2019s office also dropped by yesterday to pick up some of the scraps in the campus.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
