(Erwin Encinares)<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>The Board of Education offered yesterday the position of Education commissioner to Glenn Mu\u00f1a, who has been at the helm of the CNMI Public School System for almost a year in an interim capacity.<\/p>\n<p>The board, led by chair Marylou Ada, offered Mu\u00f1a the permanent position after the BOE meeting yesterday on Capital Hill.<\/p>\n<p>Soon after letting go of education commissioner Cynthia Deleon Guerrero last year, the BOE first appointed Yvonne Pangelinan, the PSS associate commissioner for student and support services, as the PSS chief, before ultimately appointing Mu\u00f1a as interim PSS chief.<\/p>\n<p>According to longtime BOE member and former BOE chair Herman Guerrero, the board voted unanimously to offer Mu\u00f1a the position, which would be for four years.<\/p>\n<p>Guerrero did note that the BOE legal counsel has yet to come up with an official offer letter.<\/p>\n<p>\u201c\u2026We asked the legal counsel to put [in the offer] what the board is recommending and submit it to BOE chairwoman Ada for the terms of the contract,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n<p>Guerrero noted that Mu\u00f1a first needs to accept the offer; he noted that Mu\u00f1a did not verbally say during yesterday\u2019s meeting if he was going to accept the offer or not.<\/p>\n<p> \u201c\u2026He works well with his [colleagues], so he has the leadership skillsn,\u201d Guerrero added.<\/p>\n<p>He noted that the board was prompted to act on the issue because Mu\u00f1a\u2019s position as interim PSS chief ended last Wednesday.<\/p>\n<p>\u201c[His appointment as] interim commissioner of education expired, and when that expires\u2026he essentially goes back to his duties as associate commissioner [for administrative services], so there is urgency in the matter,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n<p>Saipan Tribune tried to obtain comments from Mu\u00f1a yesterday but he declined to respond.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The Board of Education offered yesterday the position of Education commissioner to Glenn Mu\u00f1a, who&#8230;<\/p>\n","protected":false},"author":22,"featured_media":288332,"comment_status":"open","ping_status":"open","sticky":false,"template":"","format":"standard","meta":{"footnotes":""},"categories":[94],"tags":[39,182,37,40],"class_list":["post-288331","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","has-post-thumbnail","hentry","category-headlines","tag-boe","tag-capital-hill","tag-education-2","tag-pss"],"_links":{"self":[{"href":"https:\/\/www.saipantribune.com\/index.php\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/posts\/288331","targetHints":{"allow":["GET"]}}],"collection":[{"href":"https:\/\/www.saipantribune.com\/index.php\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/posts"}],"about":[{"href":"https:\/\/www.saipantribune.com\/index.php\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/types\/post"}],"author":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/www.saipantribune.com\/index.php\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/users\/22"}],"replies":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/www.saipantribune.com\/index.php\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/comments?post=288331"}],"version-history":[{"count":0,"href":"https:\/\/www.saipantribune.com\/index.php\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/posts\/288331\/revisions"}],"wp:featuredmedia":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/www.saipantribune.com\/index.php\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/media\/288332"}],"wp:attachment":[{"href":"https:\/\/www.saipantribune.com\/index.php\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/media?parent=288331"}],"wp:term":[{"taxonomy":"category","embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/www.saipantribune.com\/index.php\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/categories?post=288331"},{"taxonomy":"post_tag","embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/www.saipantribune.com\/index.php\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/tags?post=288331"}],"curies":[{"name":"wp","href":"https:\/\/api.w.org\/{rel}","templated":true}]}}
