(Contributed Photo)

Former San Vicente Elementary School teacher James M. Rayphand has debuted a new children’s book, A Good Farmer, that was inspired by the experiences of his 6-year-old son.

As he describes it, A Good Farmer is “a heartwarming portrait of a shared life between father and son as seen against the backdrop and chronology of the annual seasons.”

Rayphand hopes that this book, which he self-published, will find its way to many homes as it intends to highlight parental love, help readers identify with the characters and find enjoyment in the process. “…I’ve been working on it for a while and never thought I could be so proud of a children’s book as I am of this one.”

“I tend to be overly sentimental with anything that has something to do with my children as the book is semi-autobiographical.” he said.

The book is also in collaboration with his mother, Jeanne Rayphand, who is a lawyer. “She dabbles in painting as a hobby. …I think there is something ironic (if not outright special) about a mother-and-son duo writing a book about a father-and-son relationship,” he added.

A Good Farmer is listed and available on amazon.com at https://www.amazon.com/Good-Farmer-Mr-James-Rayphand/dp/1979286590/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1542242421&sr=8-1&keywords=james+rayphand.

The book is an easy read as it contains only 32 pages. Rayphand said this book can also be a souvenir that can be passed from one generation to another.

“I have a 6- and an 8-year-old now who loves reading the book with me before bed… I hope to be able to make it available at our local stores on Saipan in the near future,” he added.

Former San Vicente Elementary School teacher James M.
