The CNMI Public School System confirmed that there are still over 380 people who remain in its shelters as of yesterday afternoon.<\/p>\n
The PSS Agency Operation Center confirmed with Saipan Tribune yesterday that there remains 383 shelterees\u2014or 92 families\u2014in their shelters at the northern area of Saipan.<\/p>\n
There are 79 shelterees, or 16 families, at the Gregorio T. Camacho Elementary School; 150 shelterees, or 41 families, at the Tanapag Middle School; and 154 shelterees, or 35 families, at the Kagman Elementary School.
\nInterim Education commissioner Glenn Mu\u00f1a noted that a date to close the shelters has yet to be decided.<\/p>\n
\u201cWe don\u2019t have an exact date yet because we are still working that out,\u201d Mu\u00f1a said. He told Saipan Tribune that PSS is working with various government agencies such as the Department of Community and Cultural Affairs, the CNMI Emergency Operations Center, the CNMI Homeland Safety and Emergency Management Office, and the shelterees themselves to decide on a date for the closure of the evacuation centers.<\/p>\n
Mu\u00f1a noted that the upcoming storm, Tropical Storm Man-Yi, is further complicating matters.
\n\u201cRota right now is in Storm Condition 2, so we do not have an exact date for the shelter closure and we are trying to work with them [shelterees] to see if they can move out [soon],\u201d he said.<\/p>\n
During the onslaught of Super Typhoon Yutu, PSS opened all of its shelters, all of which reached maximum capacity as Yutu closed in on Tinian and Saipan. In total, there were over 800 shelterees under PSS.<\/p>\n
In a previous press release, PSS noted that it aims to resume classes on Dec. 3, 2018. Double sessions would be implemented while classes would be shared in consolidated campuses to allow each school to resume classes.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
